You can participate in the ongoing life of the Coat of Hopes by supporting its work financially.

There are two ways to do this - giving regularly as a “Coat Sustainer”(scroll down for further info) or by making a one off donation.

Any amount is helpful and greatly appreciated!

Below you will find an explanation of the place financial support plays in this work.

Ask us what is our purpose…

The Coat of Hopes is an object that can’t be owned and that is without and beyond monetary value. Nobody has been paid in the process of its making and all contributions are made out of love and goodwill. Every patch, step, conversation, hour of administrative or planning work, financial contribution and song sung along the coat’s journey is of worth. It is this generosity that the Coat is made of, and each contribution invites another. The open ended invitation to participate is an essential part of how this work functions counter-culturally.

The Coat’s work is to carry an invitation to reflect, for anyone who is willing to wear it - a space for consciousness and connection with all the others who have participated in its story. The warmth of the Coat represents the love that has gone into its creation, which supports in bearing its weight - that of the responsibility which we share in this climate and ecological emergency.

This is a process of endless reciprocal gratitude.

Ask us where we’re going…

To continue in its work the Coat must walk on. From the end of July 2023 the Coat will begin a new journey from where its last great walk ended - Glasgow to Edinburgh, before walking its way slowly back down the East side of the UK. To do this the Coat will need Coat Guardians and Coat Pilgrims to enable its journey and share it with the communities they walk it through.

We want to make sure that nobody is barred from becoming a Coat pilgrim if they choose to.

“A Coat that’s made by everyone for everyone to wear”
We choose to be funded by individuals - a valued contribution to the making of this work. The Coat does not walk for the purpose of any funding body.

Ways to donate:

  1. Become a Coat Sustainer

Would you be willing and able to make a small regular donation to help sustain the Coat on its journey onwards? In becoming a Coat Sustainer, your contributions will support us with:

  • Accommodation donations

  • Food costs for walkers

  • Support for walkers with additional needs

  • Help with travel costs to and from the route for pilgrims who would otherwise be unable to afford to get there

  • Logistical materials - for walking, Coat and events

  • Promotional materials

  • Website hosting and maintenance costs

Walking with the coat is a blessing, yet holding that invitation is hard (and hungry) work.
By donating £3
you enable
x1 person to walk with the coat for x1 day
by covering their food and other basic costs.

  • Become a Coat Sustainer by donating each month, if you would like to do this please email yes@coatofhopes.uk for bank details in so as to set up a standing order
(You could think of it in pilgrim days - £3 per month covers 1 day of walking)

2. Single Donation

  • Single donation by contributing a one-off amount through our Gofundme page.

Any support is most gratefully received

Ask us what our name is…

We are a collective movement, an ever-growing family. Since 2021, the Coat has walked from Newhaven to Glasgow for COP26 followed by invitations to visit communities around the UK. It has been worn by over 2000 people and has is currently made up of 568 patches.

During this time we have raised £4835 for the Coat’s creation and journey. This has been used to help fund:

  • Buying materials from which it is made - Recycled cotton calico for the skirts, Needles, Embroidery thread

  • Patch-making kits x 500 - Blankets and other second-hand material, Printing the instructions, Boxes for postage, Mailing costs, Making 2 COH rubber stamps

  • Walking - Maps Newhaven to London, UK wall map

  • Travel - Trains and postage to places the Coat was invited to visit in 2022, A large waterproof bag

  • Website - Design and creation, Ongoing website hosting costs

We are left with about £1000 which we are putting into The Next Chapter of this journey.

Every contribution becomes a part of the history which the Coat of Hopes carries in its fabric.
